On August 12, millions of people across Europe gathered at observation points to witness a breathtaking solar eclipse, an astronomical phenomenon not seen in nearly three decades, according to reports.
The path of the eclipse began in Siberia, crossed the Arctic Ocean, and reached Iceland before making its way to the Iberian Peninsula.
Spain experienced totality, while countries like the United Kingdom, France, and Romania only saw a partial eclipse.
International media reported that crowds reacted with exclamations of wonder and applause as they witnessed the cosmic spectacle. Astronomy enthusiasts remarked how the event reminded them of the “amazing” nature of the universe.
Chilean researcher Yasmin Catricheo traveled thousands of miles to A Coruña in northwestern Spain to be part of the event. “At totality, everyone was applauding and sharing the emotions of what we were witnessing. No words could describe that feeling,” she stated. “The universe is astonishing,” she added.
In Romania, the best views of the eclipse were from Beba Veche, the westernmost locality in the country, located in Timiș County.
