Karoline Leavitt is set to resign from her position as White House Press Secretary at the end of August, according to an announcement made by President Donald Trump on social media.
Trump stated that Leavitt is stepping down “to spend more time” with her family, as reported by The Guardian.
At 28 years old, Leavitt welcomed her daughter, Viviana, in May and returned from parental leave in July.
She and her husband, real estate developer Nicholas Riccio, also have a son together, Nicholas Robert, who was born in July 2024. Leavitt and Riccio, who share a 32-year age gap, got married in January 2025, according to People magazine.
Since returning to the White House in January 2025, Leavitt has been the most visible spokesperson for the Republican president and will now serve as one of his main outside advisors, Trump stated.

Leavitt expressed her desire to dedicate more time to her children.
“The truth is, since returning to the White House after my daughter’s birth, I’ve felt in my heart that I cannot be the best mother my two young children deserve while consistently dedicating the time, energy, and attention required of the White House Press Secretary – and that’s why I ultimately made the bitter-sweet decision to leave the White House and embark on a new chapter in my life,” Leavitt shared in a post on platform X.
Leavitt is noted as the youngest person ever to hold the position of White House Press Secretary, according to CNBC.
During his first presidential term from January 2017 to January 2021, Donald Trump had four different press secretaries.
