Chilean striker Alexis Sanchez, 37, has signed with CF Montreal, marking a significant transition in his career as he leaves European football behind. Sanchez, previously with clubs like Barcelona, Arsenal, Manchester United, and Inter, will compete in Major League Soccer (MLS) with his new team currently positioned 14th in the Eastern Conference.
On Monday, club director Luca Saputo hinted at the signing in a social media video, stating, “We’re taking Alexis, number 10,” referring to the jersey number Sanchez will wear at CF Montreal.
This move concludes Sanchez’s nearly two-decade career in European football. The transfer was also reported by journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Sanchez has agreed to a two-year contract with CF Montreal, where he will hold the status of a “Designated Player.” This designation allows MLS clubs to pay certain players salaries above the standard salary cap.
During the 2025-2026 season, Sanchez played for Sevilla, scoring four goals in 28 appearances. He is also the all-time leading scorer for the Chilean national team, with 51 goals for “La Roja.”
This transfer is part of a broader trend of high-profile moves in the MLS, following signings like Robert Lewandowski to Chicago Fire, Antoine Griezmann to Orlando City, and Casemiro joining Lionel Messi at Inter Miami.
Throughout his career, Sanchez has made 788 club appearances, netting 215 goals and providing 154 assists. He first left South American football in 2008 when Udinese acquired him from River Plate, later joining Barcelona three years after. His journey included stints at Arsenal, Manchester United, Inter Milan, and Marseille, followed by a brief return to Udinese before his last club, Sevilla, prior to the MLS move.
