Adient, the manufacturer of upholstery for car seats, has announced that it will close the factory it owns in Ploiești. This decision affects the approximately 1000 employees.

The company will gradually eliminate 1010 employees, and in 2027 it will permanently close production. The reason cited by the company? Adient is facing financial problems, and the only solution for the company with 200 factories in 29 countries is to close. In the press release, those from Adient specify that they will provide help to employees who will be left without a job.

The announcement from Adient: “The company anticipates the interruption of operations at the factory in Ploiești”

“Adient, a global leader in the production of car seats, announced today its intention to restructure its factory operations in Ploiesti, Prahova County.

Deep transformations throughout the automotive industry have meant that Adient is facing significant commercial pressures and, in this context, the company anticipates the interruption of operations at the factory in Ploiesti.

This approach became necessary in order to maintain the resilience and competitiveness of the company in the long term, given the ongoing economic challenges. The main factors are the uncertainty related to the pace of the transition to e-mobility, the decrease in demand from consumers and the general decline in market volumes, combined with increasing competition.

After a thorough evaluation of all options, Adient has not identified any viable option to continue operating the plant.

The planned restructuring would involve phasing out approx 1,010 jobs, as well as stopping production by mid-2027.Employees and union representatives were informed today, and the consultation process begins now, under the conditions provided by law

Adient remains committed to standing with affected employees throughout the transition. The company will collaborate closely with local authorities and employment agencies to facilitate the identification of new opportunities or other types of assistance needed”, was the communication from Adient, according to the local observatorulph.ro publication.

  • Adient has 5 factories in Romania: one in Craiova, one in Jimbolia, one in Pitesti, one in Poiana Lacului and the one in Ploiesti.
