Barcelona is on the verge of finalizing a transfer agreement with Manchester City for midfielder Rodri, according to reports from Mundo Deportivo.
Sources indicate that only minor details remain before the agreement is officially confirmed by both clubs. Barcelona and the player have already reached a mutual understanding, with discussions with Manchester City now in their final stages.
The proposed deal includes a fixed fee of around 55 million euros, supplemented by potential bonuses or the inclusion of a Barcelona player, which the clubs will negotiate further.
Hansi Flick Aims to Integrate Rodri Quickly
Mundo Deportivo also reports that Hansi Flick hopes to have Rodri available as early as this week, despite Manchester City coach Enzo Maresca expecting him at training on Friday.
The German coach aims for Rodri to be match-ready before the season begins in two weeks, seeking to bring him up to speed physically and integrate him into the team’s tactics.
Rodri, named the best player of the 2026 World Cup, is set to take over the role of Frenkie De Jong, who is sidelined due to a knee injury suffered during the World Cup. De Jong has been treated conservatively but has so far declined the surgical intervention proposed by Barcelona, meaning he will be out for several months.
Real Madrid’s Bid for Rodri Falls Short
Negotiations for Rodri’s transfer intensified after it became clear that he was not in agreement with Real Madrid. The Madrid club had offered only 40 million euros for the player, who has one year remaining on his contract with City. This figure was deemed too low by the English side, who are asking for 70 million euros.
Rodri interpreted Real Madrid’s offer as a sign of disinterest and subsequently informed club president Florentino Perez that he would decline the proposal, choosing instead to pursue the project presented by Barcelona.
