Christopher Nolan’s latest film, “Odiseea,” has achieved a significant milestone by exceeding $1 billion in global box office sales. This remarkable feat positions the movie to potentially surpass the director’s previous earnings records, as reported by Variety.
“Odiseea” marks the first of Nolan’s films to reach this milestone since 2012, when “The Dark Knight Rises” grossed $1.08 billion worldwide. At the time, it overtook the $1.008 billion earned by “The Dark Knight” in 2009.
The film, which premiered three weeks ago, is expected to soon outpace the earnings of “The Dark Knight Rises,” thereby becoming Nolan’s highest-grossing film. Nolan is widely regarded as one of the most profitable filmmakers of his generation.
Box Office Breakdown: Over $1 Billion in Three Weeks
“Odiseea,” featuring Matt Damon as “Ulise,” has generated $429.65 million in North America and $578.8 million internationally, totaling approximately $1.008 billion, according to Variety, as cited by Agerpres. The film has also earned $257 million from IMAX ticket sales and is poised to become the highest-grossing film in IMAX’s history by the end of the weekend.
This new release crossed the $1 billion threshold before its debut in China, the second-largest film market globally behind the United States. In China, “Odiseea” will be screened on nearly 800 IMAX screens, along with several thousand standard cinemas starting August 14.
Additionally, “Odiseea” is the fifth film released in 2026 to achieve over $1 billion in box office revenue, following titles such as “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” ($1.18 billion), “Toy Story 5” ($1.067 billion), “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” ($1.001 billion), and “Michael” ($1.001 billion).
