Victor Angelescu, the president and minority shareholder of Rapid București, announced details of the club’s transfer strategy, confirming that they plan to part ways with “one or two players” this summer.
The players targeted for departure include Denis Ciobotariu and Cristi Ignat. Ciobotariu has attracted interest from clubs in Poland and Greece, with Rapid setting a transfer fee of €300,000. The defender signed a two-year contract with the club earlier this year, despite potential negotiations with teams like Iraklis Salonika and Polish side Katowice, who were reportedly willing to pay up to €400,000. However, Ciobotariu turned down the move.
Interestingly, Rapid appears inclined to let the defender go despite his recent starts in the last two league matches, including a draw against FC Botoșani and a victory over CFR Cluj. Transfermarkt values Ciobotariu at €900,000. He has previously played for Dinamo, Chindia, CFR Cluj, FC Voluntari, and Sepsi. Attempts by Sepsi to bring him back during this transfer period fell through due to the player’s demands.
In addition to his club career, Ciobotariu has appeared for the national team, with a brief performance against San Marino.
Cristi Ignat participated in Rapid’s training camp in Austria, but his chances of making the squad in the current Superliga season are slim. Discussions about his transfer have also been reported in Greece and Cyprus, while he declined an offer from Russia.
During his five seasons in senior football, Ignat has played 64 matches in the Superliga and Liga II, scoring just once. His solitary goal came during a match on May 18, 2026, which saw Petrolul lose 1-5 to Oțelul Galați, a game that helped the team avoid relegation playoffs.
Ignat made his debut for Rapid under the management of Daniel Pancu in Liga III. In the current league edition, he has been a substitute in all three matches without logging any minutes on the pitch.
