A police officer has been sentenced to the maximum penalty after a court determined that her traffic violations directly led to the death of a six-year-old girl. This ruling, which was confirmed by the General Prosecutor’s Office (GPO), follows the officer’s actions that violated traffic safety regulations.
In addition to the sentence, the court has revoked the officer’s driving privileges for three years and ordered her to pay 6 million UAH in compensation for moral damages to the victims.
According to prosecutors, on December 10, 2025, around 11:44 AM, the officer was driving her Mitsubishi Outlander in response to another traffic accident. As she approached an unregulated pedestrian crossing on Vyscheslava Chornovola Street in Pryluky, she struck a woman and her six-year-old daughter who were crossing the road.
The vehicle was reportedly traveling at a speed of 51-55 km/h, while the speed limit in that area was 40 km/h. Tragically, the child died at the scene, and the mother sustained injuries.
Although the vehicle’s emergency lights were activated, the officer did not use the sound signals nor did she reduce her speed before reaching the crossing. She failed to yield to pedestrians and did not take timely measures to stop the vehicle, as stated in the report.
An expert evaluation confirmed that the officer had the technical capacity to avoid the collision. The officer admitted to partial guilt in the incident.
