Montenegro’s All Four Teams Eliminated from European Cups Before Round 3

Montenegro, currently ranked 53rd out of 55 in the UEFA leagues, has seen all four of its representative teams eliminated from European competitions before the third preliminary round.

In a dismal turn of events, none of Montenegro’s teams managed to secure a victory in this season’s European preliminary rounds. The overall record stands as follows: zero wins, zero draws, and ten losses.

FK Decic, who finished fourth last season, was knocked out in the first preliminary round of the Conference League after losing 0-1 and 1-2 to Latvia’s FK Liepaja.

OFK Petrovac, last season’s third-place team, also exited in the first preliminary round of the Conference League, with losses of 1-3 and 1-2 against Lithuania’s Zalgiris.

Vice-champions FK Mornar Bar faced a similar fate, being eliminated in the first preliminary round of the Conference League after a 1-2 aggregate defeat to Atletic Escaldes from Andorra.

Lastly, the reigning champions, Sutjeska, began their journey in the Champions League’s first preliminary round, where they were defeated by Kairat Almaty with a 1-2 loss away and 0-2 at home. They subsequently dropped into the second preliminary round of the Conference League, where they were beaten by Belarus’ ML Vitebsk in both legs, 3-0 and 2-1.

Alongside the microstates of Andorra and San Marino, Montenegro remains the only European country that has never had a team reach the group stages of European competitions!
