Under newly revised regulations, female tennis players must provide a cheek swab, blood, or saliva sample once in their lifetime to test for the presence of the SRY gene, which is part of the male Y chromosome responsible for male sexual characteristics.
Only athletes who do not have the SRY gene will be allowed to participate in WTA tournaments. If a positive result is obtained, an additional medical examination will determine their eligibility to compete.
Failure to comply with the testing requirements will result in disciplinary action.

- Current rules permit transgender women to compete in WTA tournaments if their testosterone levels have remained below 2.5 nmol/L for the past two years.
