Zelensky Confirms Klimenko as Candidate for Defense Minister Post

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has identified Interior Minister Ihor Klimenko as a possible successor to Mikhail Fedorov as Minister of Defense. Zelensky stated, “As for Klimenko, he is being considered as one of the candidates. Yes, he is under consideration, but I have not yet submitted the necessary documents to parliament.”
The President recognized that Klimenko possesses significant strengths similar to those of the outgoing Defense Minister Fedorov. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the army and the ministry, stating, “The army must work together with the ministry.” Specifics regarding other potential candidates for the ministerial position were not disclosed.

- Mikhail Fedorov confirmed his departure from the role of Minister of Defense on July 15 via Telegram. Media reports suggested that his replacement might be linked to a conflict with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi.
- The publication “GORDON” compiled information regarding the new government structure, particularly the possible appointment of Interior Minister Ihor Klimenko to replace Fedorov.
