Two Romanian Climbers Die After Falling into Crevasse in Italy

Two Romanian climbers tragically lost their lives in the Gran Paradiso massif in Italy after falling into a crevasse, Italian rescue teams announced on Monday.

The bodies were recovered by the Valle d’Aosta mountain rescue team, which had been searching for them since July 9, when they set off from the Vittorio Emanuele II refuge to climb. In the days leading up to the discovery, several helicopter searches were conducted, but without success. This morning, the crevasse was located, and the climbers, who fell from a height of approximately 20 meters, were extracted.

The identification operations are being handled by the Guardia di Finanza from Entreves-Courmayeur.

Both victims were Romanian nationals, though their names have not yet been released. The alarm was raised by the son of one victim, who was unable to contact them. The bodies were found at an altitude of 3,700 meters on the descent route from Gran Paradiso.
