Drone Strikes Target Moscow Region and Stavropol Oil Facility

Drone attack reports from Moscow region and Stavropol
Authorities in the Moscow region and Stavropol reported a significant drone attack involving over 350 unmanned aerial vehicles, as stated by Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin. Most of these drones were reportedly neutralized by air defense forces at a distance, with 50 intercepted as they approached Moscow.
In total, 81 drones were shot down or neutralized in the Moscow region, leading to three fatalities and five injuries in Istra and nearby Solnechnogorsk. Residential buildings in several districts, including Istra and Solnechnogorsk, sustained damage.
According to the monitoring project Exilenova+, fires in Solnechnogorsk homes were allegedly caused by actions of Russian air defense.
One individual captured on video noted, “It hit right on camera! Look at the smoke.”
Additionally, Stavropol Governor Vladimir Vladimirov reported drone attacks resulting in fires at an industrial zone in the village of Vyazniki, Shpakovsky District, where a fuel depot was ablaze.
Context
- On June 29, Russian President Vladimir Putin acknowledged that Ukrainian drone strikes on oil refineries had led to fuel shortages in some regions, although he claimed that Russia was managing the situation. The Kremlin later announced plans to import fuel products from abroad.
- Reuters reported that the fuel shortage extended across much of Russia, with long lines at gas stations and record-high gasoline prices. Following attacks on Russian oil infrastructure, production was said to meet only about 65% of the seasonal daily demand.
