Lewis Hamilton to Remain with Ferrari Through 2027

Frederic Vasseur, the head of Ferrari, announced at Silverstone that seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton will stay with Scuderia Ferrari for the upcoming season. Hamilton, who is 41 years old, is under a two-year contract that runs until the end of 2026, but reports suggest it includes an option for extension until 2027, which Hamilton can activate for his benefit.
This potential extension is anticipated to be finalized in the coming weeks, with an official confirmation expected at Monza in early September.
Ferrari’s Vasseur on Hamilton’s Future
Vasseur expressed confidence about Hamilton’s commitment to the team, stating, “Lewis Hamilton will remain with us through 2027. We are building the Ferrari team to win the world championship.” Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc, another driver for Ferrari, has already signed a long-term contract, likely keeping him at Maranello until the middle of the next decade.
Hamilton Breaks Ferrari’s Victory Drought
Hamilton secured the first victory for Ferrari this year at the Spanish Grand Prix, ending Mercedes’ winning streak from 2026. This win marked Hamilton’s first in a Grand Prix for Ferrari, breaking a 686-day winless streak since the Belgian Grand Prix in 2024.
Following his win in Barcelona and a rival’s retirement, Hamilton narrowed the points gap to just 41, reinvigorating his championship aspirations.
“Last year, I started with a dream that seemed impossible, but I never lost hope. We made many changes. I watched Ferrari succeed in my younger days, always wondering what it would be like to win with that car, and it has come true. I am forever grateful to them; this is the first of many for them. The car felt fantastic. We are starting to see how things connect; I am just happy in my life, in a good place, and I love what I do — nothing better.” – Lewis Hamilton, Ferrari driver
