Danny Glover Reveals Alzheimer’s Diagnosis Amid Ongoing Battle

Actor and film producer Danny Glover revealed in 2023 that he has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, a neurodegenerative condition impacting his memory, speech, and movement, according to reports from USA Today.

Known for his role in “Lethal Weapon” (1987), Glover discussed his struggle with Alzheimer’s in a Wednesday interview from his home on NBC’s “Today” show.

“I could live with this, in a way,” he remarked, although he acknowledged that as the disease progresses, “things will be different and will change.”

Alzheimer’s disease, the most common form of dementia, is a progressive brain disorder that initially manifests as mild memory loss and can advance to the inability to hold conversations, perform daily activities, or respond to the environment, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Nearly 7 million Americans aged 65 and older are currently living with Alzheimer’s, as reported by the Mayo Clinic.

“Life Goes On”

Glover, who disclosed his diagnosis just weeks before his 80th birthday on July 22, also spoke to People magazine about the support he has received from his family in coming to terms with the situation.

“I still have my daughter, I have friends,” the actor stated. “I just want to say, your life goes on,” he emphasized.

However, he admitted, “I still do not accept all aspects of it in my mind. There are moments that you continue to remember that validate the fact that you can remember things. And there are moments that I will never forget,” Glover added.

His daughter, Mandisa, shared with People that her father is “sometimes aware, and sometimes not,” describing the disease as a “shift in the essence of what you believe you are or are not.”

Danny Glover stressed that he does not feel it’s “the end of my life”: “There’s still work to be done.”
