Ukraine’s Youth Faces Emigration as Exam Scores Rise, Says Ombudsman

Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets has raised concerns about the potential impact of increasing the passing score for the National Multi-Subject Test (NMT) to 150. He emphasized that such a move could lead to a significant number of students opting for education abroad, particularly in countries like Poland, Germany, and the Czech Republic. Lubinets highlighted the paradox in government decisions that compel young people to emigrate while simultaneously introducing initiatives aimed at encouraging their return to Ukraine.

As an example, he referenced the “Doma” platform, which was showcased in Gdansk for individuals considering returning to Ukraine. The challenges posed by stricter academic requirements could ultimately result in a brain drain, as many graduates may seek opportunities outside their homeland.
