Pedro Martinez to Coach Real Madrid Next Season After Leaving Valencia

Real Madrid has announced that Pedro Martinez will take over as head coach for the upcoming season. The 65-year-old coach, who previously led Valencia to significant success, is expected to officially join the team soon.

Initially, it seemed that Sergio Scariolo would remain in charge of Real Madrid despite their defeat to Olympiacos in the EuroLeague Final Four. However, with Juan Carlos Sánchez’s recent appointment as head of the basketball division, changes were made, leading to Scariolo’s departure.

Coaching Change at Real Madrid

Pedro Martinez is set to replace Scariolo after an impressive tenure at Valencia, where he led the team to the Spanish Championship and a spot in the EuroLeague Final Four last season, all while operating on a budget significantly lower than many top European teams.

Reports indicate that Real Madrid will activate Martinez’s buyout clause, reportedly valued at €1 million, solidifying the deal. Martinez has expressed a strong desire to move to Madrid, with an official announcement anticipated soon.

Moreover, Valencia is facing the loss of key players this summer, including Jean Montero, which may have influenced Martinez’s decision.

Despite reaching the EuroLeague final, Real Madrid underperformed in recent competitions, failing to secure any trophies this season, having exited the playoffs in the league against Tenerife.

Real Madrid stands as the most decorated team in European basketball history, boasting 11 EuroLeague titles and having reached 11 finals overall.
