U.S. Air Force Receives New Air Force One Aircraft Donated by Qatar

The U.S. Air Force announced on Friday that it has officially accepted a new Air Force One aircraft, a Boeing 747 donated by Qatar. The modified aircraft, which has been painted in the traditional red, white, and blue colors, is now ready for presidential use, according to a statement from the Air Force. Accompanying journalists captured images of the aircraft in a hangar near Washington, D.C.
The United States accepted the Boeing 747 as a gift from Qatar back in May 2025, with the Air Force tasked to quickly develop modernization plans to ensure the aircraft meets the security and operational standards required for the presidential role.
U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth confirmed the acceptance of the aircraft, which has an estimated value of $400 million, to serve as the official plane for President Donald Trump.
A Controversial Gift
Legal experts have raised concerns regarding the implications of accepting gifts from foreign governments, which are designed to prevent corruption and undue influence. There has also been opposition from Democrats aiming to block the acceptance of the aircraft.
Qatar dismissed the concerns surrounding the transaction, while Trump deemed the ethical objections as “nonsense,” asserting that it would be foolish not to accept the plane.
Experts indicate that significant security upgrades will be necessary for the luxury aircraft gifted by the Qatari royal family, including enhanced communication systems to prevent eavesdropping and defenses against missile attacks. The costs for these modifications could run into several hundred million dollars.
While the exact expenses remain undisclosed, they are anticipated to be substantial, especially considering the ongoing Boeing project to construct two new Air Force One planes, which exceeds $5 billion.
