EU Leaders Unanimously Reaffirm Support for Ukraine in Recent Statement

All 27 EU leaders have confirmed unwavering support for Ukraine.

In a recent document, all 27 leaders of the European Union reaffirmed their strong commitment to supporting Ukraine, vowing to continue providing aid in political, financial, humanitarian, and military aspects.

The EU emphasized that a just and lasting peace can only be achieved through respect for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. The leaders stated that borders cannot be changed by force, and the aggressor state, Russia, should not be rewarded. They underscored the necessity of guaranteeing Ukraine’s long-term security and its ability to defend itself.

Leaders condemned the recent large-scale attacks by Russian forces on civilian and energy infrastructure and expressed their readiness to supply Ukraine with air defense systems, munitions, drones, and missiles, along with support for the restoration of its critical infrastructure.

The report also mentioned that the EU is preparing to disburse the first tranche of a €90 billion loan by the end of June and is organizing a conference for Ukraine’s reconstruction in Gdańsk, Poland.

Allies stressed the importance of maintaining sanctions pressure on Russia, reducing its energy revenues, and combating its shadow fleet. They also called for the return of illegally deported Ukrainian children and confirmed their support for establishing a special tribunal regarding Russia’s aggression.

Politico highlighted a significant aspect of the statement: for the first time since March 2025, all 27 EU leaders managed to reach a unified statement on Ukraine. At that time, the then Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, had blocked the approval of such a document. The change in leadership in Budapest, with the election of Prime Minister Péter Márki-Zay, has ended this practice and restored a unified support for Ukraine from the EU, according to media reports.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in an audio address to journalists reported by the GORDON publication, stated that the current meeting of the Euro Council was “the longest meeting involving Ukraine in the country’s history.”

“We have opened the first cluster – this is historic, it is our path to the EU, and it cannot be stopped. Our partners are doing great, they are our friends. We will open all clusters; I am confident of this. We have earned it, and we will not give up. We have survived Orbán, and we did not compromise our dignity. There is much work ahead. We will overcome it confidently. […] The EU will strengthen sanctions – this is unanimous. There is unity in the EU, and they are doing well,” the President remarked.
