Civilization lesson: Japanese fans caught cleaning stadium after World Cup match with Netherlands

A video posted on Reddit and later shared on other social platforms shows several Japanese fans picking up trash from the stands after the 2026 World Cup match between Japan and the Netherlands.
The footage was filmed at the Dallas stadium immediately after the Group F match had ended, and shows several fans who remained in the stands to collect litter from the sector where they watched the match.
The video was shared on social media and gathered thousands of reactions and comments.
One of the most spectacular matches of the beginning of the tournament
The moment was captured after one of the most watched matches of the World Cup so far.
Japan and the Netherlands finished tied 2-2 in a packed stadium in Dallas. The Dutch took the lead twice, through goals from Virgil van Dijk and Crysencio Summerville, but the Japanese came back each time.
Daichi Kamada scored in the 89th minute to give Japan an important point in the fight for qualification to the next stage.
Japan coach Hajime Moriyasu described the result as “a very important point“, although he admitted after the match that his team would have liked the victory.
According to The Guardian, the match was one of the most spectacular so far at the final tournament and belied fears expressed before the competition about the public's interest in some of the group stage matches.
It's not the first time
The gesture captured in the video is not a new one.
Japanese fans also attracted attention at the 2018 and 2022 World Cups when they stayed in the stands after matches to pick up litter from the sectors where they watched the games.
