Adrian Veștea, appeal to liberals three hours before the meeting where he faces Bolojan

“We are at a crossroads, in which we must preserve our identity,” said Prime Minister-designate Adrian Veștea, in a video addressed to PNL colleagues posted on his Facebook page.

“Dear liberal colleagues, it is our responsibility, as a historical party, to take on this difficult moment. We have nowhere to go if we want to return Romania to a path of economic and social balance,” said Adrian Veștea on Monday, in the video posted on Facebook.

President CJ Brașov says that PNL is “at a crossroads, in which we must preserve our identity”.

“We, all of us who are today part of PNL, the oldest party in Romania – mayors, presidents of county councils, presidents of organizations, deputies, senators, local and county councilors – must do what is necessary for the country,” Veștea said.

“I've been a member of the PNL for over 30 years. I didn't hide behind some lists, but ran unopposed. My extensive experience in the administration should remove any doubt about me,” added Veștea.

The appointed Prime Minister also said that Romania needs a “stable and efficient Government, which will carry forward the reforms, implement the programs assumed through the PNRR and continue the investments. “I rely on my colleagues that they will act rationally and that we will work together for the same goal”, added Veștea.

“I am in a position to create balance, stability and a government that will take Romania forward in such a way that we all get through this difficult period,” concluded Veștea.

Decisive meeting at PNL

Veștea's message to the PNL comes before the meeting of the PNL leadership, from 17:00, in which the party's position regarding its support for the formation of the government will be discussed.

Veștea's nomination was made on Sunday, at 09:00, by President Nicușor Dan without consulting the parliamentary parties and caused tensions in the PNL.

The leader of the PNL, interim prime minister Ilie Bolojan, accused the president Nicușor Dan of “an obvious attempt to break the PNL”, saying that the leadership of the PNL was not “previously informed”, “not even me personally”.

For his part, Ciprian Ciucu, first vice-president of the PNL, spoke of a “plot”, a “betrayal” and an “interference”.
