Crin Antonescu, about the tensions that arose in the PNL after the appointment of Adrian Veștea as prime minister: “Romania is in crisis”, but “in the PNL there is a fight”

In a statement for Gândul, Antonescu emphasizes that the priority should be governmental stability, not internal disputes or party calculations.

Antonescu draws attention that “Romania is in crisis” and “it needs the best possible government in the shortest possible time”, insisting that the public interest must come before political rivalries.

The former liberal leader, however, confirms that there is an open conflict within the PNL, generated by the decision of President Nicușor Dan to appoint Adrian Veștea.

“Yes, in the PNL there is a struggle“, says Antonescu.

His remarks come at a time when the Liberal National Party is deeply divided. On the one hand, the central leadership, led by Ilie Bolojan, categorized the appointment of Adrian Veștea as a “hostile act” and an attempt to destabilize the party. On the other hand, several leaders from the territory chose to support the proposal, thus outlining an increasingly visible fault between the party's structures.

The former president of the PNL makes a clear distinction between a confrontation for positions and one of an ideological nature, suggesting that the real stake could be the political direction of the party. â

If the dispute goes beyond the level of administrative positions, then, he says, it becomes an essential issue for the future of the PNL.

“If there is also a fight for the identity of the party, between the conservatives and the post-Basist Sororists, it is of major importance and I wish the conservatives success“, says the former PNL president.
