What kind of summer cottage would be complete without zucchini? In June they begin to actively bloom and set fruit. To reap a bountiful harvest, you need to do something. And the main thing during this period is to feed the plants regularly and on time.
How to feed zucchini
“Fertilizers should be given regularly, once every 10–14 days, pouring 1-2 liters under the bush. It is necessary to water it first. Both organic and mineral fertilizers should be given, alternating them,” shares the author of the Zen channel “Antonov Garden – Dacha and Vegetable Garden” (12+).
Mineral supplements
Mix 15 g of potassium sulfate and 20 g of superphosphate per bucket of water (10 l). This mixture will enhance the formation of ovaries and improve the quality of the fruit.
Another option: 20–25 g of nitroammophoska and 10 g of potassium sulfate, also per 10 liters of water.
An ash infusion is made as follows: a glass of ash is poured into 10 liters of water, left for a day and stirred occasionally. This infusion not only nourishes, but also gently reduces the acidity of the soil.
Organic fertilizers
Green manure. Any container (even a barrel) is filled two-thirds with chopped grass – nettle, dandelion, squash, and comfrey will do. Fill with water to the top and leave to ferment for 7–10 days. The finished concentrate is diluted with water 1:10 and poured a liter under the bush. This feeding contains a lot of potassium and various microelements.
An infusion of mullein (1 part to 10 parts water) or bird droppings (1:20) is used at the very beginning of June if the tops grow poorly.
Foliar feeding of zucchini
Boric acid is given when mass flowering occurs. 2–3 g of powder is first diluted in a small amount of warm water, and then added to 10 liters. Spray in the evening.
The first time zucchini is fed one and a half to two weeks after planting the seedlings. And then continue at the same interval.
Zucchini in open ground
Fertilizers are applied in the evening, after watering or good rain. Usually one liter of nutrient solution per bush is enough.
Zucchini in a greenhouse
In closed ground, zucchini need to be fed more often – once every 7-10 days, because there is little land there and reserves of useful elements run out faster. It is best to use mainly potassium-phosphorus fertilizers.
After applying fertilizers, the greenhouse must be ventilated. Otherwise, high humidity together with mineral salts can provoke fungal diseases.
Folk recipes for feeding zucchini
Yeast feeding. Take 100 g of raw pressed yeast and 50 g of sugar, pour all 10 liters of warm water and leave for a couple of hours to ferment. Then dilute with water 1:5 and pour a liter of zucchini at the root.
Infusion of onion peels. Two handfuls of husks are poured into 5 liters of boiling water, left for a day, filtered and sprayed on the leaves.
