Major General Ivan Popov was left in pre-trial detention center. The decision was made by the 235th Garrison Court. The meeting was held closed to the media. The investigation itself asked the ex-commander of the 58th Combined Arms Army to change the preventive measure to house arrest.
On May 24, the general’s appeal against arrest was rejected by the 2nd Western District Military Court. Popov was sent back to the isolation ward.
Ivan Popov is accused of fraud. According to the initial version of the investigation, he sold metal structures intended for the preparation of fortifications in the Zaporozhye direction during the period of active hostilities. The amount of damage is 130 million rubles.
