Jail sentence for “trash streaming” in Poland. What are the facts to which it will apply

Polish parliamentarians voted on Thursday to punish the so-called 'trash streaming' (toxic online race for attention), imposing sentences of up to five years in prison for the online broadcasting of crimes such as murder and rape, but also acts of cruelty to animals and violence intended to humiliate other people, informs Reuters, taken by Agerpres.

The move is part of Poland's efforts to tighten its regulations on online content. Among the recently adopted measures is the ban on the use of mobile phones at school by minors under 16 years of age.

According to the new provisions, online broadcasting of crimes punishable by more than five years in prison will be treated as a separate crime that can bring a sentence of up to five years in prison.

The law also refers to content that shows cruelty to animals, violence and humiliation of other people and to the promotion of gambling.

The same penalties will apply to persons who simulate or falsely portray the commission of such sanctions while broadcast live.

The European Union regulates illegal content and offenses under the Digital Services Act (DSA), which requires platforms to quickly remove material that promotes violence.
