Twenty employees of the Săpunari Psychiatric Hospital, from Călărași county, are being investigated under judicial control for illegal deprivation of liberty and abuse of office, after allegedly subjecting several patients to immobilization measures without complying with legal provisions, reports Agerpres.

According to the Public Prosecutor's Office attached to the Călăraşi Court, the investigated facts would have taken place between July 6 and August 25, 2025.
Seven patients were allegedly immobilized without following legal procedures
Investigators claim that seven patients with acute mental illnesses, voluntarily admitted to the medical facility, were repeatedly subjected to restraint measures by the medical staff.
It is about 23 nurses and medical assistants who would have ordered the immobilization of patients without respecting the conditions, procedures and duration provided by the Law on mental health and the protection of people with mental disorders.
The file was opened following a referral made by the Council for Monitoring the Implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
24 searches and 23 arrest warrants
As part of the investigation, the policemen of the Călărași Criminal Investigation Service carried out, on June 10, 24 searches and executed 23 arrest warrants.
According to the Călărași County Police Inspectorate, the persons concerned are being investigated for illegal deprivation of liberty, abuse of office, intellectual forgery, use of forgery and abusive behavior.
The actions were carried out within the Jupiter operation, under the coordination of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice and the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police.
