Who is Sorin Elisei, the newest option for the leadership of the Ministry of Energy in the Tomac Government. Until today, another name was favored

Sorin Elisei is the favorite to take over the chair at the Ministry of Energy, political sources told HotNews, an institution where he is already general secretary. Until today, however, when Elise's version appeared, another name was circulated for the Energy portfolio, one of the most important ministries.
The same political sources specified that the decision regarding Elisei's name at the head of the Ministry of Energy has not yet been 100% taken by the designated prime minister, Eugen Tomac.
Before occupying the position of secretary general in the Ministry of Energy, Sorin Elisei was director of the General Directorate of Energy Policy and Green Deal, according to Economedia. The same publication also writes that Elisei is also Romania's representative in the Supervisory Board of OMV Petrom.
Graduated in Journalism in Bucharest, Elisei started working in the energy field in 2016, as a director of Deloitte, a position he held until 2024, when he joined the Ministry of Energy, according to his CV.
From February 2025, Sorin Elisei is also a member of the CNR-CME Board of Directors.
Economedia also writes that he was a journalist in the economic field at two publications: Mediafax and Ziarul Financiar.
Elisei is not the first name circulated at Energie
The favorite so far for the Ministry of Energy chair in the Tomac Government was Corina Chiriac.
HotNews reported last week that she was appointed in 2025 as the president of the Board of Directors of Moldelectrica, the energy system operator in the Republic of Moldova.
Corina Popescu was the general director of Electrica from February 2019 until the spring of 2022. Since she was dismissed without reason a year before the end of her mandate, she received a compensation of 680,000 euros.
