A former prime minister praises the ministers' proposals and reveals what he said to Tomac: “After so much bitterness and poison, comes Sweetness”

Deputy Victor Ponta, former prime minister from the social democrats, said on Tuesday that the prime minister-designate, Eugen Tomac, should have come to the talks with the parties and parliamentary groups accompanied by two or three people who will hold positions as ministers, because “they are very good people”.

Ponta participated in the meeting of the designated prime minister with the members of the United for Romania parliamentary group, to which the former PSD leader announced that he had joined.

“I don't give advice. I also made some remarks based on the experience, like that, as an old man that I have. The first thing, I told the designated prime minister that he shouldn't have come alone. He should have come with two or three ministers, especially since, at least the names circulated in the press at Defense, at Foreign Affairs, at Agriculture, they are very good people. What else can I discuss? So if they were sitting next to Mr. Tomac, it was a good thing.” Ponta stated.

“I also made a joke that I don't know if everyone will appreciate. I particularly appreciated that Sweetness is coming to the Ministry of the Environment, after so much bitterness and poison. The Environment needed a little sweetness, after so much bitterness. And I also gave him a personal opinion, that Mr. Papahagi's nomination is a nail in the foot. Very, very little money in Culture, unfortunately, and it must be managed by someone less conflictual. Mr. Papahagi said that PSD is an organized criminal group, but I think he will ask for PSD votes, right? And Mr. Papahagi is the type that creates more problems for you in government, than helps you,” said the former prime minister.

He added that it is very important who will be the Minister of Finance in the future government.

“The most important thing, is the economy restarting? Who is the Minister of Finance? I started my government in 2012 with Minister of Finance Florin Georgescu. If you have money, you can do a lot of things. Make the salary law, give back to the military what you took from them, give money to justice. You don't have money, it's for nothing, it will be the same as before. So may God have a Minister of Finance like I had on Florin Georgescu and to have money to repair the wrong things done in the last year”, added Ponta.

The designated Prime Minister declared on Monday evening, on Antena 3 CNN, that he intends to propose to the future Government:

  • Sorin Costreie – Ministry of Education and the position of Deputy Prime Minister;
  • Dan Neculăescu – Ministry of Defense;
  • Luca Niculescu – Ministry of Foreign Affairs;
  • Vladimir Ionaș – Ministry of Development;
  • Nicolae Istudor – Ministry of Agriculture;
  • Teodor Dulceață – Ministry of the Environment.
