Two more established names from the Tomac Government. The 3 ministries for the management of which the appointed prime minister keeps the suspense

Florin Duma will be Prime Minister-designate Eugen Tomac's proposal for the Ministry of Economy, and Carmen Moraru will be nominated for the Ministry of Investments and European Projects (MIPE), political sources told HotNews on Tuesday.

At the same time, Sorin Elisei is now being considered for the Energy portfolio, instead of Corina Popescu, the name circulated so far for this position.

While several portfolios already have announced holders, negotiations to finalize the government team continue, and several key ministries are still left without definitive proposals or names circulated.

According to the cited sources, Florin Duma will be Tomac's proposal for the Ministry of Economy. Florin Duma was elected, at the end of 2024, the president of the main representative organization of SME owners, the National Council of Small and Medium Private Enterprises in Romania (IMM Romania).

Currently, he is the first vice-president for social dialogue within the organization.

For the Ministry of Investments and European Projects, the proposal of the designated prime minister is Carmen Moraru, political sources told HotNews. Carmen Moraru is already secretary of state within the ministry.

At the Ministry of Energy, the favorite for the nomination is Sorin Elisei, according to HotNews information. His name is taken into account instead of Corina Popescu, previously circulated for this portfolio. The sources state, however, that the decision is not yet final.

Before occupying the position of secretary general in the Ministry of Energy, Sorin Elisei was director of the General Directorate of Energy Policy and Green Deal, according to Economedia. The same publication also writes that Elisei is also Romania's representative in the Supervisory Board of OMV Petrom.

Other names under discussion, according to HotNews sources

According to information obtained by HotNews from political sources, Eugen Tomac will also propose:

  • Radu Burnete – Deputy Prime Minister. He is currently a presidential adviser on economic issues;
  • Alexandru Soare Filatov – Minister of Justice. He is currently a presidential adviser on constitutional issues;

Portfolios that are not yet closed

Negotiations continue for several positions in the future Executive, including the Ministries of Interior, Finance and Health.

Also, not all the names for the positions of Deputy Prime Minister, Secretary General of the Government and Head of the Prime Minister's Office have been announced yet.
