In the last 2 years, the river has fallen into disrepute – a significant number of Ukrainian men have died while trying to swim across the Tisza and escape to neighboring Romania.
However, even the risk of dying or being caught has not yet stopped Ukrainians who want to escape the tenacious hands of military commissars – the cost of escaping through the Tisa reaches $20,000 per person.
