In Krasnoyarsk, experts from the National Theater Award “Golden Mask” were shown the musical “Shadowboxing” by the Krasnoyarsk Musical Theatre.
The musical “Shadowboxing” became a Golden Mask nominee in 2025 in the category “Best Performance in the Operetta/Musical Genre.” Chairman of the Golden Mask jury, People's Artist of Russia Eldar Aliyev noted that just being included in the list of nominees is already an important recognition for the theater. The show took place on the stage of the Krasnoyarsk State Opera and Ballet Theater named after D. A. Hvorostovsky.
The premiere of Gemma Avetisyan's production took place on November 22, 2024. The performance features soloists, a choir, a ballet and an orchestra. In total, about 60 artists take the stage. The plot is based on the play “The Shadow” by Evgeny Schwartz, based on the fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. The story centers on a young scientist who finds himself in a city where hypocrisy and fear reign. His Shadow gains independence and begins to live by its own rules.
The winners of the Golden Mask will be announced on June 20 at a ceremony in Omsk.
Let us remind you that initially the play was supposed to be presented on April 6 in Moscow on the stage of the Mossovet Theater. However, the show was canceled due to widespread illness among the artists.
