Harsh words in Ukraine after Zelensky's decision. “The president was framed”

— It is impossible to imagine a worse moment to cause such a crisis in relations with Poland. Why am I talking about this? Because we are on the eve of important decisions about opening EU negotiation clusters, we are on the eve of the NATO summit, we are on the eve of important decisions about providing us with financial and defense support. And of course, what is happening in our relations with Poland is not to our advantage, said Yeliseyev.

On Radio NV, the former diplomat shared a very harsh assessment of the causes of the crisis in Polish-Ukrainian relations.

— My version is this: I believe that the president of Ukraine was framed. Who framed him? I believe there should be an investigation because it does not serve the interests of the state. I wouldn't like to say it's treason, but it harms our state interests and that's why I hope that those who framed the president in this way will be held accountable, he said, without naming specific names.

In his opinion, the people who were supposed to frame Zelensky “picked the moment” for the president to sign the decision.

The storm surrounding Volodymyr Zelensky's decision

At the end of May, Volodymyr Zelensky named one of the units of the Ukrainian army “UPA Heroes”. This is an elite unit, the Independent Special Operations Center “Północ”. As he said, he did it “in order to restore the historical traditions of the national army and taking into account the exemplary performance of entrusted tasks while defending the territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine.”

The decision caused strong reactions in Poland, and President Karol Nawrocki proposed that the Chapter of the Order of the White Eagle debate the removal of the decoration that Zelensky received in 2023 from Andrzej Duda.
On Monday, the jury presented its opinion on revoking the award from Zelensky. According to the president's spokesman, Rafał Leśkiewicz, the president will make the decision “at the appropriate time.”
Let us recall that last weekend, the head of the Chancellery of the President of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, came to Warsaw. A close associate of Zełenski met with Marcin Bosacki, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The topic of the conversation was the issue of naming the Ukrainian unit after the UPA. Budanow also met with the Minister of Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and the head of the President's Office of International Policy, Marcin Przydacz.
