Olivier Giroud is about to turn 40 on September 30. The French forward convinced Lille to offer him a new contract and play one more season in Ligue 1.
Olivier Giroud has extended his contract with Lille, the club announced. The new commitment of the 39-year-old striker is valid until the end of the 2026-2027 season.
Olivier Giroud has one more season left at Lille
Giroud joined Lille last summer. In the previous campaign, the veteran and former French international played in 30 matches in Ligue 1, managing to score 7 goals.
Olivier Giroud played for Arsenal, Chelsea, Milan, Montpellier, Grenoble, Tours and FC Los Angeles during his long career.
The striker has 137 caps and 57 goals for the French national team and is the top scorer in the history of the “Galician Roosters”. Kylian Mbappe, however, comes hard from behind. The Real Madrid star has no less than 56 goals at just 27 years old.
Giroud has played the most matches in Arsenal's shirt. He managed 105 goals and 38 decisive assists in the shirt of the Londoners.
Of course Mbappe will beat me! He has at least five, seven or even more years left to play for the national team. What are we talking about here? It's only a matter of time. I think he will overtake me by the time the World Cup starts (no – laughs).
Kylian is a fabulous player, I remember we were all impressed when we saw him in Monaco. He was just a kid then. Now it is at the highest level. I hope he achieves 100 goals for the national team! That would be great.
