Russia reacts to the election results in Armenia. There will be import restrictions


Russian authorities have warned Yerevan against introducing additional restrictions on the import of Armenian fish products. As Ilya Shestakov, head of the Federal Fisheries Agency, announced on Monday, “further steps will certainly be taken”if there are threats related to the impact of these goods on Russian veterinary safety.

Previously, Russia allowed the import of fish only to two Armenian plants “subject to laboratory monitoring of safety indicators”, and also introduced restrictions on the import and sale of mineral water, alcohol, flowers, vegetables, fruits and other products from Armenia.

The new bans were announced by authorities just hours after Nikol Pashinyan, Armenia's prime minister, announced victory for his Social Contract party in parliamentary elections held the day before. According to preliminary data from the Armenian Central Election Commission Pashinyan's party won 49.81 percent. votes. It will win 61 seats in parliament, the remaining 44 will go to other parties, according to the Armenian editorial office of Radio Svoboda. Pashinyan himself announced that after the “historic victory”, his party would form a new government on its own.

According to the head of the Federal Fisheries Agency, in addition to live fish from Armenia, quite a large amount of frozen fish also comes to Russia, but possible additional restrictions “will in no way affect” the supply of the Russian market. — We have a large enough trout production of our own. Aid package from the European Union

Last week, amid Moscow's attempts to put pressure on Yerevan through trade restrictions, The European Union announced the preparation of an economic aid package for Armenia in the amount of EUR 50 million (approx. PLN 210 million). For his part, Pashinyan announced that Armenia will redirect the export of its goods blocked by Russia to other countries. The first batches of roses and vegetables have already been exported to the EU, as the Prime Minister assured.

On the eve of the elections in Armenia, Tom Berendsen, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, announced on the X platform that The Netherlands will help Armenian flower exporters enter the European market. The Royal FloraHolland association of florists will provide Armenian producers with its platform and enable contact with recipients in the EU and beyond, the minister noted. On the same day, Pashinyan announced that Armenian agri-food products would enter the EU market without customs duties.
