The moments of panic caused by Christian Eriksen's collapse (34 years old), on Sunday evening, on the field, in the Denmark – Ukraine friendly, were followed by encouraging news from the medical staff of the Nordic national team on Monday morning.

Eriksen fainted on the pitch, recalling the 2021 European collapse. Now, unlike then, he was stabilized much faster and left the field on his feet, conscious. Transported to Odense University Hospital for further investigations, Eriksen passed the night well.

His condition has improved, he is stable, and in the early hours of the morning national team doctor Morten Boesen provided an update on the Danish midfielder.

Christian Eriksen is to be discharged

Eriksen is fine, and during the day he would be discharged, continuing his recovery period at home.

“We spoke to Christian this morning and he is fine. He is with his family and in good spirits. We expect he will be able to be discharged soon and come home.” Boesen said on Monday morning, as quoted by bold.dk.

The player, in turn, republished in the “Insta Story” section of Instagram, the message of the Federation doctor, who came with the latest news about his condition.

This time, the Dane was saved by the defibrillator that was implanted and thanks to which he was able to continue his career.

It was the same feeling. It simply reappeared. It was latent in me for five years. I felt the same feeling of helplessness, frustration and sadness. It was heartbreaking, but it's good that now Christian feels OK under the circumstances. Christian has to answer this (not if it was the last match). I don't know. It's up to him to decide what he wants

Eriksen is not the first collapse on the field

Eriksen fell on the pitch once more, in the match between Denmark and Finland at EURO 2020, held on 12 June 2021. At that time he was rushed to hospital, where he was stabilized.

After that episode, he was fitted with the pacemaker that the national team doctor is talking about. Eriksen was able to continue his career, he has since played for Brentford, Manchester United and Wolfsburg, and 5 years after that, he experienced heart problems again.

He is currently registered at Wolfsburg, a team just relegated from the Bundesliga. He is still under contract until the summer of 2027, but it is possible that this alarming new episode will make him decide to call it quits and end his career.
