“I want to let everyone know that I'm fine and I'm home with my family. As you can imagine, receiving a shock from the ICD has had a major impact on me and my family, but I want to assure everyone that it's a different situation than what happened in 2021. I'm fine and the recovery has already begun.

In addition to being grateful for the support and assistance I received from the players and the medical staff at the stadium, I am grateful to the doctors who have taken care of my heart over the years. Thanks to their expertise, the ICD device did exactly what it was supposed to do: protect me when I needed it.

At the moment I am focused on recovery, spending time with my family, going on holiday and playing football with my children”, was Christian Eriksen's message on his personal Instagram page.

• Christian Eriksen started his career at the Odense juniors, and then, as a junior, he was transferred to Ajax, where he made his senior debut. The Dane has also played for Tottenham, Inter, Brentford, Manchester United and Wolfsburg.

• He is currently registered at Wolfsburg, a team just relegated from the Bundesliga. He's still under contract until the summer of 2027, but it's possible that this alarming new episode could end his career prematurely.
