Two streets in the center of the Capital will be closed to cars. Ciucu: “Exclusively pedestrian, university space”

Bucharest City Hall has announced that Edgar Quinet streets and Enei Church will become pedestrian spaces, following landscaping projects carried out by students from the “Ion Mincu” University of Architecture.

“We are pedestrianizing and regenerating the Edgar Quinet Streets and the Enei Church. And for this we involved the students from the “Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urbanism. We already have five ideas (…) We will translate them into a final project for the development of the area. A quality one, with modern urban furniture and green space”, says a post on the municipality's Facebook page.

In a ceremony in which he awarded the students' projects, together with the mayor of District 1 George Tuță, the general mayor of the Capital Ciprian Ciucu says that the ideas will be realized in a final project within a few weeks.

“I would very much like this space to become exclusively pedestrian, university, car-free and represent a start. I am waiting for other proposals from you for other areas that can be freed from cars. You are students of an extraordinary university! What can be more beautiful and motivating in a profession than having the chance to shape and develop cities?”, addressed the mayor of the Capital.

At the same time, the capital's town hall announced that work is being done this weekend on several construction sites on the streets of the capital

“We want to close the construction sites as quickly as possible and not lose the European money! Here is lot 4 today: from Piața Victoriei, Bd. Mihalache, București Noi, to the loop on Bd. Gloriei. We are modernizing 6 km of carriageway here. Another 31 km are being worked on in other areas of the Capital. Three lots will be ready this year”, announced PMB.
