Israel announced on Sunday the launch of an air attack on the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital Beirut, an area that is a stronghold of the pro-Iranian Hezbollah movement, after rockets were launched from Lebanon towards Israel, despite a new truce agreed on Wednesday in Washington, inform the AFP and EFE agencies, taken over by Agerpres.
“The army is currently conducting an attack against terrorist command centers in Beirut's Dahieh neighborhood in response to Hezbollah rocket fire into Israeli territory,” said a joint statement by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz.
Lebanon's national news agency NNA confirmed the attack, noting that two apartments in two buildings located in the southern suburbs of Beirut were hit.

The Israeli army announced earlier on Sunday that two projectiles were launched from Lebanon towards Israeli territory and were intercepted.
A new cease-fire agreement was announced Wednesday, following a fourth round of negotiations between Lebanon and Israel in Washington, as the cease-fire in effect on April 17 was never respected.
This new agreement, rejected by Hezbollah, provides for a truce conditional on the complete cessation of attacks carried out by the Iran-backed Shiite group, but at the same time allows the continuation of Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon. However, Israel warned on Thursday that it would attack Beirut if Hezbollah attacked its territory.
