Images of air conditioning brought by helicopter to the Sibiu Philharmonic. How the manager of the institution explains the intervention
Residents of the center of Sibiu witnessed an unusual intervention at the Philharmonic headquarters on Saturday morning, where a helicopter was used to bring the new air conditioning equipment, according to Turnul Sfatului.
The operation was part of a project to modernize the building's cooling system, which involves the installation of chiller equipment on the upper terraces.
The investment is part of a project financed by the Sibiu County Council. Thus, after the completion of the procedure, Sala Thalia will have a modern air conditioning installation for the first time, according to the cited source.
The building of the Sibiu State Philharmonic, located in a tower from the 16th century, has functioned until now without a modern air conditioning system.
Why was the helicopter used?
Philharmonic representatives explained that the use of a helicopter was imposed by the urban changes in the area, which made it impossible to use a crane to lift the new equipment.
“We had to do this operation, initially thinking of a large crane to lift the installations and change them. Except that a crane can no longer be mounted around the building, as it was in 2004. Trees, vegetation were planted, a small park appeared. And then the only solution by which we could change the installations was a helicopter,” explained Cristian Lupeș, the manager of the Sibiu State Philharmonic, on the spot, quoted by Sibiu Independent.
Asked how novel the intervention was, the manager of the Philharmonic said that the idea of using a helicopter arose from discussions with the teams involved.
“It was very unusual, because in the discussions we said how to do it and we all saw movies and said: why not a helicopter? Now, in Europe this is practiced. We are glad that we could do it here and we thank the team that took care of it”, he added.
