Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Mikhail Kotyukov and General Director of Russia's largest gold mining group Polyus Alexey Vostokov agreed at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum that in preparation for the celebration of the 400th anniversary of the city of Krasnoyarsk (celebrated in 2028), Polyus will support a large-scale project to modernize the Krasny Yar rugby stadium.
The Krasny Yar stadium is home to the club of the same name, one of the most titled rugby teams in Russia. She has 12 victories in the championships of Russia and the USSR, 10 victories in the Russian Cup and one Russian Super Cup. Since 2018, Polyus has been the general partner of the Krasny Yar club.
“I am grateful to the Polyus company for its decision to actively participate in the program of large-scale transformation of Krasnoyarsk, which is being implemented for the 400th anniversary of the capital of our region. Rugby in Krasnoyarsk is more than just a sport: among the leaders of the Russian championship there are two city teams, and buying a ticket for a game between them is not at all easy! Therefore, the reconstruction of Krasny Yar is a very important project for the entire city and region. The renovated Krasny Yar will become a point of attraction for children and youth. Not only rugby stars, but also children will be able to train on it – the future of not only Krasnoyarsk, but also Russian sports,” said Mikhail Kotyukov, Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
According to the road map prepared by the Krasnoyarsk city administration, this year, as part of the reconstruction plan for the Krasny Yar stadium, it is planned to develop all the necessary design documentation. After which, construction work will begin in 2027 with completion in the anniversary year 2028. :
“Krasny Yar and rugby in general are the most important sporting and cultural asset of Polyus’ native Krasnoyarsk region: there are only a few rugby teams with such a history and the number of the highest titles in the country,” said General Director of the Polyus Group Alexey Vostokov. — We support the development of Krasnoyarsk as the rugby capital of Russia and closely monitor the team’s tournament results. Previously, Polyus financed the construction of a modern multifunctional complex, where, in addition to the club’s professional rugby players, children from the Olympic reserve sports school also train. The reconstruction of the Krasny Yar stadium will give the development of rugby in the city and region an additional impetus and, I hope, will be a good gift for athletes and all residents for the anniversary of Krasnoyarsk.”
