In St. Petersburg, where the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is currently taking place, accommodation prices have skyrocketed.

The absolute record for price was a suite in one of the premium five-star hotels in the city center. For one night for single occupancy you will have to pay 898,240 rubles, and for double occupancy – 902,240 rubles per night. In addition to the bedroom, the room has a living room with a decorative fireplace, a guest toilet and a bathroom. Buffet breakfast is also included in the price.

Moreover, during the forum, hotels accept guests for at least 4 nights from June 2 to June 6. Thus, you will have to pay about 3.6 million rubles – an amount comparable to the cost of an apartment in many regions of Russia.

Prices for standard rooms in five-star hotels during the forum also increased by 5–10 times compared to the usual tourist season. On average, standard accommodation in these hotels will cost guests from 150,000 to 350,000 rubles per day. Almost everywhere the same rule of package booking for all days of the forum applies. Despite these prices, available rooms in five-star premium hotels ran out a month before the start of SPIEF.

For participants not willing to spend millions on accommodation, four-star hotels became an alternative. But here prices start from 50,000 rubles, although on ordinary days these same rooms cost from 8,000 rubles.

Owners of apartments in the center of St. Petersburg also decided to make money on high-status guests. To rent a decent one-room apartment on Nevsky Prospekt or near St. Isaac's Cathedral these days costs from 20,000 to 50,000 rubles per day.

Hotel business experts explain such prices by the classical law of supply and demand. SPIEF annually attracts tens of thousands of wealthy guests: top managers of major corporations, investors, foreign delegations and high-status politicians. For them, the status of the hotel and its proximity to meeting venues are more important than the cost of living. For the St. Petersburg hospitality industry, SPIEF week is the most profitable period of the year.
