Clip thinking prevents Russian schoolchildren from writing essays on the Unified State Exam

5 June 16:30

Graduates began to distort facts more often in essays on the Unified State Exam due to superficial reading of texts and clip thinking. This is reported by TASS with reference to the chairman of the subject commission of the Sverdlovsk region for the Russian language, Natalia Yushkova.

According to the expert, schoolchildren sometimes make mistakes even in the information that is in front of them in the text. They may incorrectly rewrite the author's last name, the character's name, or a specific detail from the material they read. Among the reasons for this trend, she named a decline in the general level of reading culture, clip thinking, the use of ready-made homework and generative technologies.

The expert explained that difficulties with composition arise when schoolchildren do not regularly practice writing and do not develop the skill of long-term text analysis. As a result, during the exam, the graduate may not understand the problem of the source material and adjust it to his own ideas.

Yushkova noted that factual errors and semantic distortions are assessed according to different criteria. If a graduate makes an error in the content, his argument or literary example may not be counted. This can significantly reduce your final essay score.
