The move made by Eugen Tomac the day before he was appointed prime minister

Eugen Tomac resigned on Wednesday as the president of the Popular Movement Party (PMP), one day before he was appointed by President Nicușor Dan to form the future government, party sources told HotNews.
For the moment, it is not clear whether Eugen Tomac also resigned from the party when he left the leadership.
Eugen Tomac was president of PMP between 2015 and 2020, then returned to the head of the party in 2022 after a congress that was challenged in court by Cristian Diaconescu, who led the formation between 2020 and 2022.
PMP, the party founded by Traian Băsescu and led by Eugen Tomac, has no MPs at the moment. In the December 2024 elections, PMP ran alongside Forța Dreptei, but the joint list registered well below the electoral threshold of 5%.
Eugen Tomac also holds the positions of MEP and honorary adviser to the president. If he is inaugurated by Parliament as prime minister, he is obliged by law to leave these posts.
