In Krasnoyarsk, Rosselkhoznadzor specialists identified quarantine pests in vegetables and fruits from China. This was reported by the Rosselkhoznadzor Office for the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
The inspection was carried out at the temporary storage warehouse of Agroterminal-Customs LLC. Experts examined shipments of lettuce, zucchini and pineapples with a total weight of 3.4 tons. The samples were sent for research to the laboratory of the Krasnoyarsk branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “TsK Agroindustrial Complex”. According to the results of the examination, Western flower thrips were found in lettuce and zucchini, and Comstock mealybugs were found in pineapples.
These pests are considered quarantine objects. They are not dangerous to humans, but can cause serious damage to agriculture. Western flower thrips damages vegetable and flower crops and can also transmit plant viruses. The Comstock mealybug infects more than 300 plant species and is common in tropical regions.
To prevent the spread of pests, the owner of the product was issued a notice to take action. By decision of the owner, vegetables and fruits were treated with approved drugs that are safe for humans.
Rosselkhoznadzor noted that quarantine pests can destroy up to 80% of agricultural crops.
