Friedrich Merz wants a meeting of the E5 group. It's about relations with the US

This is part of the preparations for the July NATO summit in Ankara. Despite Donald Trump's sharp criticism of the Alliance, as reported by the Middle East Eye website, the American president allegedly told Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan that intends to take part in the summit. The White House has not yet confirmed this information. The Turkish Foreign Minister, in turn, said that in none of the conversations did Trump suggest that he intended to leave the leaders' meeting in Ankara.
The German Chancellor does not spare Donald Trump
As Bloomberg assessed, Merz has become one of the European leaders most willing to publicly question Trump's foreign policy decisions, primarily regarding the war with Iran.
The deputy head of the Ministry of National Defense, Paweł Zalewski, announced on May 26 that “we will know more within three weeks.” The White House referred PAP's questions on this subject to the Pentagon, and the Ministry of Defense has not yet responded.
Europe is getting ready for the NATO summit
In addition to the E5 leaders' summit, the defense ministers of these countries will meet separately on June 12 in Paris to coordinate positions ahead of the NATO summit and discuss issues related to command structures in the event of a major conflict in Europe.
According to Reuters, on Wednesday the United States plans to present to its NATO allies proposals for a “radical” accelerated withdrawal of some American troops from Europe. This is to take place during NATO's annual conference on allied forces in Mons, Belgium, where the Headquarters of Allied Forces Europe (SHAPE) is located.
