Donald Trump does not forgive Pope Leo XIV. “Someone should explain it to him”

US President Donald Trump posted an entry on social media on the night from Saturday to Sunday in which he attacked Pope Leo XIV. “Someone should explain to the Pope that the mayor of Chicago is useless and that Iran cannot have nuclear weapons! President DONALD J. TRUMP,” we read on the Truth Social platform.

The entry is accompanied by photos from the meeting between the Pope and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, who was in the Vatican on May 28. Trump has not had any sympathy for him for a long time. In October 2025 Trump said that Chicago Mayor and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker should go to prison for failing to protect ICE deportation officers. There were clashes between agents and demonstrators in the city.

Donald Trump versus the mayor of Chicago

“The Mayor of Chicago should go to jail for failing to protect fire officers! Governor Pritzker too!” – Trump wrote on his social networking site Truth Social.

In Chicago and surrounding areas there were several incidents between ICE officers and protesters whom the Trump administration describes as members of Antifa. In at least two cases, protesters blocked ICE vehicles, and last Saturday, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents shot a 30-year-old woman who followed their vehicle with others and eventually crashed into one of the cars.

Leo XIV censored by the US president

The topic of Iran appears not for the first time in Trump's posts regarding the Pope. Leo XIV is critical of US military activities in the Middle East. In the first half of April, Donald Trump was extremely critical of the position of the US pope. “I don't want a pope who thinks it's okay that Iran has nuclear weapons,” he wrote on social media.
