Central defender Mihai Popescu (33 years old) extended the contract with FCSB. His agreement with the red-blue formation expires at the end of this season.

The first to confirm that Popescu will stay with the capital group was MM Stoica, the president of the Board of Directors. On Wednesday evening, she stated that the defensive player accepted the proposal from Gigi Becali and that he will continue at FCSB.

In turn, the player reposted the image, in which he, dressed in the red-blue shirt, signs a sheet on which he writes “Contract extension +2 years”. In the background, pictured are several team insignia, including a trophy.

The central defender suffered a serious injury last fall, in an action of the national team, and Gigi Becali has been announcing his separation from the player ever since.

However, Popescu recovered faster than expected and returned to FCSB's starting line-up at the end of this season, when the team is fighting for the last place in the Conference League.

“I am very satisfied, because he impressed us all with this extremely fast return. We thought he would not play again this year, and he is now the starter. Look, he surprised us all!”, said MM Stoica, one day before Popescu signed the extension until 2028.

Mihai Popescu wore the FCSB jersey 27 times this season, in all competitions, scoring a goal in the play-out. It is quoted by the specialized website Transfermarkt at 800,000 euros.
