Have the Americans left the embassy in Kiev? Confusion after Kai Kallas' words

Kaja Kallas told reporters that, according to information from the Ukrainian side, “all embassies, except one, remained in Ukraine. The Americans withdrew.”

The EU foreign policy chief emphasized that Russia's threats to attack Kiev are an attempt at intimidation which, in her opinion, will not bring results.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in turn, did not confirm Kallas' statement. “This is not true,” said ministry representatives, quoted by RBC-Ukraine.

Meanwhile, advisor to the President of Ukraine, Dmytro Lytvyn, announced that American diplomats had indeed left Kiev. According to him, the Americans were evacuated before Russia launched an attack on Ukraine on the night of May 24-25 using drones, ballistic and wing missiles, as well as the Oreshnik. — We heard that American diplomats left Kiev then, he said, adding that “in any case, Ukraine is grateful to all the embassies that operate in Kiev.”

In response to the reports, the American embassy said it was open and working normally.

Russia warns against attacks on Kyiv

On May 25, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs threatened attacks on “decision-making centers”, defense facilities and command posts in the Ukrainian capital. The ministry urged foreigners, including diplomats, to leave Kiev “as soon as possible” and the city's residents to “stay away from the military and administrative infrastructure of the Zelensky regime.”

EU ambassador to Ukraine Katarína Mathernová called the Russian Foreign Ministry's statement a “masterpiece of hypocrisy” and a “sign of desperation.” She added that European diplomats were not planning to leave.
