Crin Antonescu, about the scenario “Eugen Tomac premier”: “He is a pure-blood politician, not a technocrat”

The former president of the PNL, Crin Antonescu, said on Wednesday, May 27, that Eugen Tomac, the leader of the PMP and one of the names circulated for the position of prime minister, has neither the profile of a technocrat nor the support of a parliamentary party.

“The character Eugen Tomac, a politician, I said, reasonably, with a reasonable career, but who, from a political point of view, faced with the hypothesis of forming a government, has in himself none of the two conditions required, I think, for such a position.

Either the position of technocrat, because Eugen Tomac is a pure-blood politician, not a technocrat, two, as a politician he is the leader of a party that did not enter the Romanian Parliament. So, at this moment, if we are discussing Eugen Tomac, possible prime minister, we are discussing as a prime minister of the president”, said Crin Antonescu on TVR.

Crin Antonescu says that the expression “my government”, associated with Klaus Iohannis, still had a real political basis, because the former president was supported by the PNL, an important party in Parliament.

“A “mine” government, from Nicușor Dan's side, is much more difficult to achieve, because it would only have the prime minister, provided that a majority would accept him, and this is not happening.” adds Crin Antonescu.

MEP Eugen Tomac declared that “the country needs the Government”, thus answering the questions related to his possible nomination for the position of prime minister, after his name has been circulated in recent days as a variant of prime minister.

President Nicușor Dan decided to postpone the announcement of a candidate for the position of prime minister, given that a parliamentary majority to support a new Executive has not yet been formed.

According to some political sources quoted by “Adevărul”, the European Parliament member Eugen Tomac remains the favorite, but the support from the Legislature is insufficient at this moment.

Tomac would currently benefit from the votes of PSD, UDMR and the group of national minorities. Instead, PNL, USR and AUR reject both the Tomac option and the idea of a technocrat prime minister, the same sources claim.
