US move after China invites Russia to UN Security Council meeting: 'Disrespectful'

Russia's UN ambassador said on Tuesday that the United States had not granted a visa for Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Aleksandr Alimov to attend a Security Council meeting in New York, Reuters reported.
Vasili Nebenzia accused the US of violating its obligations under the UN Headquarters Agreement in remarks at Tuesday's meeting of the 15-member Security Council, which was chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Nebenzia claims that Alimov intended to attend the event.
“The Russian delegation (…), based on the invitation of Foreign Minister Wang Yi, should have been represented in today's meeting at the level of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Aleksandr Alimov, who oversees matters related to the United Nations,” said the Russian ambassador.
“However, despite all our attempts to convince the American side to issue a visa for him, in the end that visa was not granted,” Nebenzia added.
He said that according to the UN Headquarters Agreement, access to the UN headquarters in New York “must be ensured for all officials of member states without exception”.
Russia, Ambassador Vasili Nebenzia also stated, sees the issue as “a flagrant case of disrespect towards the Chinese presidency of the Security Council and towards the topic under discussion today, that of the United Nations Charter”.
